Yamaguchi Kumiko

Kumiko has a very quirky personality. She is pretty wise about the ways of the world and is familiar with the goings-on of the underground, and yet at times she can be overly optimistic and naive. In all three versions you will often find Kumiko giving passionate motivational speeches (much to the dismay of her students), daydreaming, giving lame excuses for her behavior, and coming up with hare-brained schemes. In the drama, she will often cheer for herself with a little "Faito! O!" before entering a room.

Faito! O!
However, you never forget that she is from a yakuza family. Besides the little mistakes she makes with everyday words (think "copper" instead of "officer"), she will slip into her yakuza speech pattern when she is angry (which occurs fairly regularly, as she’s a tad hotheaded) and gets what her students call a "devil face" when she’s particularly pissed. She’s also an extraordinary fighter and does not hesitate to do her duty as heiress of the Ooedo clan when the situation calls for it.
